The Canzani Center was the inspiration of Joseph Canzani, who served as president of CCAD for over forty years. It combines 3 major functions that the college needed into one facility, a large art gallery, a 400 seat auditorium and the college library. The library is located on the lower level because of the extra floor loading that is required for books. It looks out onto an outdoor sunken sculpture court to the North that brings natural light into the space. The main entry into the first level is across a bridge over the sunken court.
Before President Canzani retired another floor was added. This level provides a small gallery space with views of downtown Columbus and a new president’s office that overlooks the campus. The building is designed as an honest, elegant expression of simple materials that act as a backdrop the art created by the students and faculty of CCAD.
